Christopher Michlig: Negations
Christopher Michlig is a Los Angeles-based artist working in a variety of media ranging from collage to sculpture to film and video. The focus of his practice is the manipulation of public formats of communication to limit their communicative, commercial function, thereby enhancing and privileging their materiality and formal structures to expand notions of referentiality.
Christopher Michlig was featured in the 2006 L.A. Weekly Biennial, curated by Holly Myers and Tom Christie, and Yellow, curated by Lia Trinka-Browner at the Fellows of Contemporary Art in 2008. Michlig has recently exhibited work at Dan Devening Projects + Editions in Chicago, and the CSLA Luckman Gallery. Upcoming exhibitions include LA25, curated by Thomas Solomon at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions. Michlig’s solo debut at Jail Gallery was reviewed in the May, 2008 issue of ARTFORUM by Jan Tumlir.
Christopher Michlig received an MFA from Art Center College of Design in 2007 and is a faculty member at SCI-Arc, Otis College of Art and Design, and California State University, Northridge.
