W.M. Keck Lecture Hall
Intro by Eric Owen Moss
American architect and watercolorist Steven Holl is well-known for his sculptural shapes, interest in the poetics of space, color and material, fascination with scientific phenomena, and work centered on urban history and the potentials of modern science.
Holl met Raimund Abraham in 1976 at the AA in London and, again, at New York’s Cooper Union. His encounters with Abraham are recalled in a letter published by Archlog after the Austrian architect’s tragic death in March 2010: “It was hard to love Raimund…. He was so very severe… but when you encountered him, you knew you were in the presence of someone very rare… you were in the presence of a soul… with conviction.”
