SCI-Arc's annual Graduate Thesis Weekend & Graduation Ceremony will take place September 5-7, 2014 on the SCI-Arc campus in downtown Los Angeles.
A culmination of up to three years of study and coursework leading toward the Master of Architecture and M.Des.R post-graduate degrees, this public three-day event has students presenting their final projects to critics from all over the world, and culminates with an all-school commencement ceremony for both undergrads and grads. Guest critics this year include Michael Bell, Ben Bratton, Tomas Daniell, Winka Dubbeldam, Greg Lynn, Brian Price, Bob Somol, Michael Speaks, Brett Steele and Catherine Veikos. In addition to attending presentations and reviews, participants and guests can also tour the school and its facilities.
SCI-Arc is pleased to welcome Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and architect Greg Lynn of FORM as commencement speakers this year.
On Sunday, September 7, from 5-7 p.m., students, their families and guests are invited to participate in an all-school graduation ceremony, where degrees will be conferred to graduating students in the B.Arch, M.Arch and M.Des.R. post-professional programs. Download the ceremony program.
A reception will follow the ceremony, which will be held in the graduation pavilion designed and built by SCI-Arc faculty Marcelo Spina and Georgina Huljich of P-A-T-T-E-R-N-S, with the help of a transformative grant from ArtPlace.
For those attending the event, on-site parking will be available at 350 Merrick Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013. Students, family members and friends unable to attend the ceremony can watch the live broadcast at www.sciarc.edu/live.
Graduate thesis projects will remain on view throughout the school until September 12. In addition, a special Selected Thesis Exhibition showcasing outstanding projects selected by guest critics will be on view in the SCI-Arc Gallery between September 16-24.
