Alum Shaunt Yemenjian Featured in Architect Magazine

Alum Shaunt Yemenjian (M.Arch2 '06) of Spacio|Design was featured in Architect Magazine's April 2010 issue. The story, Think Locally, Act Globally, documents the entrepreneurial efforts of Yemenjian (right) and partner Kiel Famellos-Schmidt (left) and introduces several recent projects completed by their Fresno-based architecture firm.

Key players in a city-wide effort to create a 10-year plan to end homelessness, the two partners initiated Archop (pronounced "ark hop"), an event program modeled on Fresno's existing Arthop, which lets community members mingle and talk with artists at gallery open houses downtown. With the support of the AIA San Joaquin chapter, Archop has run eight exhibitions, four lectures, and three installations so far.

I see in Fresno a real opportunity over the next 10 or 15 years to become a powerhouse in California, due to its location, its affordable housing stock, a forward-thinking mayor, and the promise of high-speed rail, which will connect to L.A.—255 miles away—in about 90 minutes.

Shaunt Yemenjian completed Making+Meaning, SCI-Arc's foundation program in architecture, in the summer of 2005, and then enrolled into the M.Arch2 program at SCI-Arc, which he completed in 2006. After practicing architecture in Los Angeles for several years, he moved back to his hometown of Fresno, where he founded Spacio|Design together with Famellos-Schmidt.
