New York-based 24° Studio, led by alumni Fumio Hirakawa (M.Arch1 '05) and Marina Topunova (M.Arch2 '06), was among ten international firms selected to design and build an installation for the Container Ground exhibition at the Tokyo Designers Week 2010. Selected designers were tasked to create and interactive installation to be displayed in a shipping cargo container.
The Hope Tree design by Hirakawa and Topunova was envisioned as a spatial condition questioning our surrounding as we know it, generating a discussion and understanding among visitors about places in their everyday life and environment.
The competition to determine the winning firms was hosted by the Design Association NPO of Japan and Dezeen UK.
