Angela Brooks (M.Arch '91) of Santa Monica-based Pugh + Scarpa was honored by the USA Network with a Character Approved award as an innovator shaping American culture.
The SCI-Arc graduate is among this year's ten honorees recognized by the network as cultural influencers and trailblazers across a variety of disciplines such as art, new media and film. Fellow SCI-Arc alum Jennifer Siegal (M. Arch '94) was among the 10 honorees in 2009.
Brooks plans to donate her $10,000 award prize to Global Green USA, a nonprofit in support of a global value shift toward a sustainable and secure world.
The Character Approved honorees will be featured in vignettes introduced by Mark Feuerstein (Royal Pains), which will debut Thursday, Feb. 25 on USA Network. The vignettes offer a look at the lives, works and influences of the individuals and will be aired over the course of six weeks on the network and online at www.characterapproved.usanetwork.com. In partnership with Vanity Fair, USA will host an invitation-only reception for the honorees in New York on Feb 25.
Pugh + Scarpa, headed by Brooks and founding partners Gwynne Pugh and Lawrence Scarpa received the 2010 AIA Firm Award at national and state levels.
