SCI-Arc/Caltech Solar House Model on View at the National Building Museum in D.C.

The solar-powered house model designed by the SCI-Arc/Caltech team, finalist in the 2011 Solar Decathlon competition organized by the U.S. Department of Energy, is on display at the National Building Museum in Washington D.C through July 25.

Visitors can explore the conceptual designs of the 20 collegiate teams participating in the elite international competition. From now until the event opens on the National Mall in fall 2011, teams will transform these ideas into real solar-powered houses that are judged on affordability, energy efficiency, and marketability.

The SCI-Arc/Caltech Team is the first from Southern California selected for the 20-team competition, held every other year. Finalists include teams from major universities in the US and from Belgium, Canada, China and New Zealand.

The exhibition, U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011 Finalists: A Special Presentation, is co-presented by the National Building Museum and the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon.
