Inside SCI-Arc

LAMP outreach and community program project completed
For the latest SCI-Arc outreach and community program project, SCI-Arc students designed and built a new sun shelter for LAMP community, a drop-in and crisis center for the homeless with mental illnesses, at 627 Julian Street, between 6th and 7th streets in downtown Los Angeles. Led by SCI-Arc faculty member Alexis Rochas, the team built the pavilion out of recycled polyurethane panels, fabricated at the SCI-Arc shop and assembled on site. The project took six months to complete, and has provided a shaded courtyard with seating and planters for the homeless, and has created a visceral presence in the skid row area.
