Faculty member Florencia Pita of fpmod lectures Friday, March 11, at the A. Alfred Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan.
Her lecture, titled …oh so pretty, will showcase work by her practice, fpmod, including her installation currently on view at the Art Institute of Chicago.
In Pita's words: "Candy colored, embellished and fragrant, extremely artificial yet somehow graceful, that is the cunnings of prettiness. The fantasy of the pretty is the fairytale, where stories are implausible but rather amusing, a speculative fiction of the enchanted instead of the scientific. The design imaginary of the pretty unveils the uncanny nature of its tactics, rigorous and laborious they tend towards delight but they encounter amicable joy, neither gloom nor ecstasy, just play."
Pita is part of the design faculty at SCI-Arc, teaching in the undergraduate and graduate design studios. She is also Visual Studies instructor of advanced software and part of the Visiting Faculty at Lund University, Sweden.
