| Membership: The Academic Council is made up of the director, the program directors, the coordinator of the Cultural Studies program, four faculty members elected by the faculty and two student representatives (one graduate and one undergraduate) elected by the student body. Additionally, one faculty member and one student at large are appointed by the director. The director reserves the right to appoint him/herself chair or to appoint a faculty member to act as chair on his/her behalf. All terms are two years in duration.
Function: The agenda is set by the director and other members of the council. The director solicits advice from the council in formulating, implementing and evaluating aspects of the academic development and management of the institute. The Academic Council attempts to reach a consensus on proposals submitted for its consideration by members of the Academic Council, the Faculty Council, or the Student Union. If a consensus cannot be reached, votes may be taken. Reports of the council’s deliberations are made available to the Board of Directors, faculty and students. Schedule: The Academic Council meets once a month. |
