| SCI-Arc has identified the following priority areas of funding, enabling us to uphold our tradition of excellence and provide the best learning environment for our students. Donations can be allocated toward "general expenses" or toward any one of the following areas:
Scholarships Scholarships are given to worthy students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, to subsidize the costs of their SCI-Arc education. Awards are based on both merit and need, and enable talented students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds to gain access to the unique educational experience that SCI-Arc provides. Classrooms/Public Spaces SCI-Arc's classrooms and other learning areas are in need of renovation and equipment in order to keep up with advances in technology and ensure our students receive the most cutting-edge information. Library The SCI-Arc library is one of the most important resources we offer our students, with a collection of over 20,000 books in 97 different subjects. We are constantly in need of new acquisitions, and currently seeking funds to upgrade our catalog of holdings to a searchable, web-based system, to give students easier access to our unique collection. Faculty Research & Innovation Fund In order to retain the highest quality instructors, SCI-Arc must remain competitive in the opportunities and benefits offered to our faculty. This fund supports faculty research and projects to enhance the SCI-Arc curriculum. Technology Department SCI-Arc is on the pulse of new developments in technology for design. We have both a PC and Mac lab, each outfitted with twenty workstations equipped with the latest design software. Our equipment and software upgrade needs are ongoing, to enable our students access to the latest and most advanced developments in the field, and provide our staff with technology that will ensure the most efficient performance. Wood and Metal Shop The SCI-Arc Wood and Metal Shop facilitates our hands-on approach to learning, allowing students to put into practice what they study in the classroom. The shop is always in need of in-kind donations of materials, and also requires funds to make enhancements to equipment and the working space. Lectures Each term, SCI-Arc sponsors a public lecture series for the community, free of charge. These events focus on current architectural issues in the world of design and make SCI-Arc a strong participant in this ongoing discourse. On average, these lectures attract a crowd of three hundred, to discuss the most current events in the world of design and architecture. Exhibitions We also exhibit installations by pioneering architects and design firms in the SCI-Arc Gallery, in the Kappe Library, and at off-site community locations. These are open to the public free of charge. Community Outreach Design/Build Program SCI-Arc believes we have a responsibility to our surrounding communities. For this reason, we collaborate with local nonprofits in need of construction. Our students design and build for these nonprofits at no cost to them, so that they may better serve those in need. Past projects have included affordable housing, a homeless drop-in center, and a youth center. |
