Why did you choose architecture?
To be honest, I think I did not have much say in my career choice. My entire family works in the architecture field and I’ve always been fascinated with the sense of fulfillment and satisfaction that the profession has brought to their lives. I started really young in the field, helping my father and accompanying him to visits at all his construction sites.
Why did you choose to attend SCI-Arc?
I chose SCI-Arc because the school truly gives students the possibility to experiment with new ideas and forms of representation. SCI-Arc is also well known for its focus on design and novel forms of representation. Most of all, I love SCI-Arc’s particular view of architecture as equally related to art and building. SCI-Arc is a radical school, where faculty push you above and beyond your limits in the research of new ideas, forms, and a new aesthetic.
What are the strengths of our curriculum?
SCI-Arc’s strength is in the people that make up the school, creating a strong environment for students to develop their individual style, while at the same time making life-long connections. The computational skills that one acquires at SCI-Arc are also sure to provide you with a competitive advantage in the field of architecture and design. The school’s upper-level, vertical studios allow us to relate to students from other programs, at different levels into their education and with a different focus in their design research. This diversity of thought makes for an amazing educational environment.
What are the defining or unique characteristics of SCI-Arc students?
I think a strong commitment to architecture and to the school is one of the defining characteristic of SCI-Arc students.
What is your favorite studio experience?
In general, all my studio and seminar experiences at SCI-Arc have been great. With each class I had the opportunity to learn new things and push myself in my research. Being among the first group of students to work in SCI-Arc’s newly created Robot House was also a privilege and truly a unique experience. It is a dream for many to have six robots to work with, one that came true from me. I very much enjoyed the classes taught by Peter Testa and Andrew Atwood, which pushed our research in the robotics lab into unique directions.
Have you been involved in projects outside of the required coursework?
In my first month here at SCI-Arc I had the opportunity to help thesis students in their final preparations for thesis weekend. That really helped me in understanding the structure of the school and its parameters much quicker.
Talk about your summer internship experience.
Outside of SCI-Arc, I practice architecture with my office, Moure Rivera Architects, where my partner and I are at work developing multiple projects including a school building and several residential designs.
What are your plans upon graduation from SCI-Arc? How will your education at SCI-Arc help you achieve your goals in the future?
After graduating from SCI-Arc, I plan to return to my country to teach and to continue to grow my architecture practice. I believe my SCI-Arc education will prove instrumental in helping me develop a new vision of architecture, while at the same time providing me with the unique skills to improve my practice and my ability to teach architecture.
