Why did you choose architecture?
I choose architecture as a profession because my strengths are my artistic abilities, organizational skills, and my desire to help people through design. I also love doing it, from the beginning research and concepts to building with emerging materials and technologies.

Why did you choose to attend SCI-Arc?
I chose SCI-Arc’s graduate program because I wanted to complement my first degree from Cal Poly Pomona to have a more complete and well-rounded education. Cal Poly is a more technical based program with a grounded and structural approach to design. SCI-Arc has a great reputation within the architectural community and is known for its artistic expressions in presentation and experimental design programs. I like all aspects of architecture and feel that I now have a more complete approach to design.

What are the strengths of the SCI-Arc curriculum?
Definitely, the innovations in design and the experimental programs, such as SCI-FI and EST. I am also very excited to participate in the Solar Decathalon. These are all progressive architecture programs that are not offered at any other university.

What are the defining or unique characteristics of SCI-Arc students?
SCI-Arc attracts students that are creative, innovative, and want to learn today’s architecture. The students here are interested in possibilities and experiments in design. I have met very interesting people from all over the world who are competitive in designs yet highly collaborative in group work. They are interested in the best solutions to a design project, and have a very intense work ethic to arrive at the ideas. It is definitely a school that shapes the future of architecture.

Detail your favorite studio experience.
My favorite studio experience has been working with Peter Zellner in the SCIFI vertical studio. As SCIFI's program coordinator, Peter is very passionate about working with all of the students in their unique design approaches. He also coordinates technique workshops so that we can better express our ideas with methods we want to learn.

Have you been involved in projects outside of the required coursework?
I was involved in a 2-week workshop earlier this semester for Odile Decq, a visiting French architect. Her work is very interesting and I am grateful for such a unique and productive experience in such a short amount of time.

What are your plans upon graduation from SCI-Arc? How will your education at SCI-Arc help you achieve your goals in the future?
How will your education at SCI-Arc help you achieve your goals in the future? I plan to work with a small to mid-size creative firm on retail, residential, or small-scale commercial projects. I would also like to work for the City of LA on larger public projects. SCI-Arc has given me the technical and creative skills I need to succeed in a competitive work environment and a difficult economy.

"Because at SCI-Arc we learn from practitioners, we get an idea about how things function in the real world..."

"It's fascinating to build...and to destroy! At SCI-Arc, we all share a certain curiosity for capital A, Architecture, a will to build, and of course to discuss this whole process. " Read more >>
