Inside Renzo Piano Building Workshop
is a documentary by MUSE - Factory of Projects of Francesca Molteni, directed by Claudia Adragna and Davide Fois, following the work of Renzo Piano Building Workshop for 18 months. The film shows the RPBW method: what happens in the workshops in Punta Nave in Genoa, in Paris, and in the building sites – in Europe, Asia, and America – in the business meetings in the studio, in the discussions with consultants and customers.

The five chosen projects were followed for 18 months in different stages of their conception and implementation: the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, California, inaugurated in 2021, a building site featuring a strong representative content (the imagination factory); CERN’s Science Gateway in Geneva, Switzerland, still under construction, a building site featuring a strong communal content (the science factory); the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris-Saclay, completed in 2020, a research site in a large park, featuring a high educational content (the knowledge factory); the SNF Thessaloniki General Hospital in Sparta, Greece, a sustainable building site featuring a high humanitarian content (the health factory); and finally, the Marunouchi Tokio Marine in Tokyo, a technological building site in the center of the city, featuring a high symbolic content (the factory of work). Five different places, three continents, five social and environmental contexts that have little in common, except the RPBW method.

Kerry Joyce is an architect based in Genoa. He earned both his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Bachelor of Architecture from the Rice University School of Architecture in Houston, Texas, USA. Kerry joined the RPBW office in 2016 to work on the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, California. He was involved from the Design Development Phase through to the building's completion, including spending a year on-site in Los Angeles to follow the final phases of construction. Additionally, he contributed to all stages of the design for the Whittle School Washington DC Campus (inaugurated in 2020). From Schematic Design through Construction, he also worked on Monterosa 91, a mixed-use project developed from the former Il Sole 24 Ore headquarters in Milan. Kerry became an Associate in 2022 and is currently leading the design of the Sarasota Performing Arts Center in Florida.
