Architecture After the Fires: LA in Progress
Join us on Friday, October 3 at 5pm for the opening of SCI-Arc’s newest exhibition, which brings together architects, designers, and community partners to explore the urgent realities of rebuilding in the wake of California’s wildfires. The evening reception offers a first look at the work on view and an opportunity to gather in dialogue around resilience, recovery, and the role of architecture in shaping a more sustainable future.
Resilient Futures Task Force, Marti Vera Marsal.
SCI-Arc's Resilient Futures Task Force is opening a call for submissions of architectural plans and concepts in the zones recently affected by wildfires. The multi-day event showcases the current state of architectural adaptation as it unfolds under conditions of heightened fire risk. Works of any typology are accepted, and we invite submissions of in-progress projects as well as speculative or research-oriented works.
Selected projects will be displayed in an open gallery format from October 3-5 in W.M. Keck Lecture Hall and its adjacent galleries at SCI-Arc.
The exhibition opens October 3 at 5pm, with brief opening remarks at 6pm. The galleries will be open for viewing across the weekend from 11am-4pm and awards will be announced the following week after review by a distinguished jury.
If your project is selected, you will have ample time to submit your materials. SCI-Arc will give clear dimensions and spatial constraints for installation and will offer model bases and screens on a first-come, first-served basis. The event will be staffed with support during installation.
Note that the event is free and open to the public, and offers the opportunity to meet with many homeowners, homebuilders, architects, designers, and construction experts.
Submissions close on the evening of September 26 at 11pm.
