Kevin McMahon: Something from SCI-Arc: Six Decades of Graphics for Public Programs

An exhibition of 50+ framed flat printed works from the Kappe Library’s archival collections, in the Kappe Library, November 11, 2026 – February 21, 2027. As both artifacts and art, the works document changes and continuities in architectural discourse from the last quarter of the 20th century, while also embodying the evolution of Southern California graphic design over the same period. This will be the first comprehensive exhibition of SCI-Arc graphics, and will surprise viewers who didn’t realize SCI-Arc has been commissioning and acquiring significant graphic art since the beginning.

After working for SCI-Arc since 1984, McMahon will be retiring the end of the Spring ’27 term. The exhibit reflects his focus, for the last decade, on preserving and making accessible SCI-Arc’s archival material, as both history and art.
