2017 Gehry Prize Winners Announced

The 2017 Graduate Thesis Weekend culminated at the graduation ceremony on Sunday, September 10 with the awarding of the Gehry Prize by SCI-Arc Director Hernan Diaz Alonso to two students for Best Graduate Thesis: James Kubiniec and Keith Marks. Merit Graduate Thesis Awards were given to Joanna Chao Hua Chen, Aaron Choi + Kaiho Yu, Jiali Li, Feiran Wang, Siddardha Chalamala, Zeynep Cinar, Meenakshi Dravid, Zengxin Ge + Kai-Si Hsu, Brendan Ho and Pangal Kiran Nayak.

The weekend’s events included reviews of the 86 thesis projects with over 50 critics including SCI-Arc faculty and invited guests. Critics included Joe Day, Sylvia Lavin, Marion Weiss, Eva Franch I Gilabert, Tom Gilmore, Thom Mayne, Francisco Pardo, Dana Cuff, Jeffrey Kipnis, Lucy McRae, Barbara Bestor (M.Arch ’94) and Graduate Thesis Coordinator Florencia Pita among others. The thesis projects will remain on view throughout the school until Thursday, September 14.

The juried exhibition of exceptional thesis projects by 2017 graduates, featuring the 2017 Gehry Prize winning theses, and a selection of best graduate thesis projects, will be on view in the SCI-Arc Gallery from September 15 – October 1.
