Michael Osman’s work focuses on the history and theory of architecture in the 19th and 20th centuries. His book, Modernism’s Visible Hand: Architecture and Regulation in America, is a history of the confluence of regulatory thinking and building design. He has also co-edited Writing Architectural History: Evidence and Narrative in the 21st Century, which seeks to understand the field's current methodological assumptions. He directs the MA/PhD programs in Critical Studies of Architecture at UCLA.
