Cinema Series: Living in the Future’s Past (2018)

Special guest: Timothy Morton

W.M. Keck Lecture Hall
October 08, 2019 at 7:00pm

Timothy Morton is the Rita Shea Guffey Chair in English at Rice University. He has collaborated with Björk, Jennifer Walshe, Jeff Bridges, Sabrina Scott, Olafur Eliasson, and Pharrell Williams. He co-wrote and appears in Living in the Future’s Past, a 2018 film about global warming with Jeff Bridges.

Academy Award Winner®, Jeff Bridges presents Living in the Future’s Past, a beautifully photographed tour de force of original thinking on who we are and the environmental challenges we face. Bridges, alongside prominent scientists and authors, weave evolution, emergence, entropy, dark ecology, and what some are calling the end of nature, into a story that helps us understand our place among the inhabitants of Earth’s household. The film upends our way of thinking and provides original insights into our subconscious motivations, the unintended consequences, and how our fundamental animal nature influences our future as Humankind.

Join us for a conversation between Timothy Morton and Michael Stock followed by the film screening.
