SCI-Arc EDGE, Center for Advanced Studies in Architecture is a platform for speculative scholarship and specialized training offering four post-professional programs culminating in a Master of Science degree. Focused on expanding the frontiers of architecture for the twenty-first century, each program challenges students to develop innovative ideas for building future worlds. As architecture becomes simultaneously more specialized in its expertise and more diverse in its applications, it is urgent to engage programs of advanced study that are both focused and innovative. SCI-Arc EDGE programs are designed to develop advanced forms of expertise that address the complexities of the contemporary world and the increased demands on the ability of architects to meet emerging challenges.
SCI-Arc EDGE curricula create space for students to develop their own interests, passions, and agendas—a crucial foundation for developing contemporary careers in design industries. Each of the four programs assumes that innovative thought emerges out of technical mastery and provides a rich studio culture based on this principle. As individual projects develop, the programs provide a common infrastructure for students to develop practical applications through collaborations with industry-specific partners. Students gain exposure to a broad cross-section of professionals from related disciplines and industries, helping them to develop a body of work that will support career development.
