The Mexico Study Abroad Program introduces students to the architectural and cultural vibrancy of Mexico City, which is North America’s largest city as well as one of its oldest.
Study Abroad
The three-month summer-term program consists of a design studio, three seminars, and supporting workshops. The design studio and seminars are taught by a combination of SCI-Arc faculty, prominent architects, designers, and artists from leading universities, architecture firms, and design collectives across Mexico City. A studio space in the heart of the city serves as the base for students to learn and collaborate throughout the summer. Outside of class, they explore the best architecture, museums, historical and cultural sites in Mexico City.
In addition to formal coursework, the program includes field trips to areas of interest in Mexico City and its surroundings, such as Acapulco and the floating gardens of Xochimilco. Students also attend a curated lecture series, gallery openings, and exhibitions related to topics highlighted in the program curriculum. Lecturers have included some of the most important voices in architecture and design in Mexico today: Frido Escobedo, Hector Esrawe, Tatiana Bilbao, Miquel Adrià, Rozana Montel, and more.
